XVR Wireless Bridge – Point-to-Multipoint Configuration Using the Web Interface

Some XVR Wireless Bridges may have the Country Region setting configured as China from the factory.

When the region is set incorrectly, the normal push-button pairing process may not work properly. Before configuring a Point-to-Multipoint system, set the Country Region to United States on every bridge, reboot the bridges, and then connect each Slave to the Master through the web management interface.

A single Master bridge can support up to 8 Slave bridges.


Quick Steps

  1. Set one bridge to Master and all remaining bridges to Slave using the physical selector switch.
  2. Log into each bridge, change the Country Region to United States, click Apply, and reboot the bridge.
  3. Log into each Slave bridge and connect it to the Master's CPE_XXXXXX wireless network.
  4. Verify successful communication by confirming all four signal-strength LEDs are solid on each bridge.

Detailed steps follow.


Step 1 – Identify the Master and Slave Bridges

Designate one bridge as the Master.

The remaining bridges will be configured as Slaves.

A Point-to-Multipoint system supports:

  • 1 Master bridge
  • Up to 8 Slave bridges


Step 2 – Set the Master Bridge

On the bridge designated as the Master, move the physical selector switch to:

M – Master

When configured as the Master, the bridge operates in AP Mode.


Step 3 – Set the Slave Bridges

On every remaining bridge, move the physical selector switch to:

S – Slave

When configured as a Slave, the bridge operates in Repeater Mode.

Up to 8 Slave bridges can connect to a single Master.


Step 4 – Power the Bridges

Power on the Master and the Slave bridges that will be configured.

Allow the bridges to complete their startup sequence.

Startup may take up to approximately 2 minutes.


Step 5 – Wait for the Wi-Fi Indicator

Wait until the Wi-Fi indicator is illuminated or flashing.

This indicates that the bridge has completed its startup sequence and the wireless interface is active.


Step 6 – Access the Master Bridge Web Interface

Connect to the Master bridge and open its web management interface.

The factory-default WiFi password is: 66666666

The factory-default bridge address is: http://192.168.188.253

Default password: admin


Step 7 – Set the Master Country Region to United States

While logged into the Master bridge:

  1. Select the WiFi icon from the left-side menu.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Locate Country Region.
  4. Select United States from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Wait approximately 20 seconds.
  7. Power-cycle the bridge.

After rebooting, allow the Master bridge to fully start before continuing.


Step 8 – Set Each Slave Country Region to United States

Repeat the Country Region change on every Slave bridge.

While logged into a Slave bridge:

  1. Select the Repeater icon from the left-side menu.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Locate Country Region.
  4. Select United States.
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Wait approximately 20 seconds.
  7. Power-cycle the bridge.

Repeat this procedure for every Slave bridge in the system.

Important

Changing the Country Region affects the bridge's wireless radio. If you are connected through the bridge's CPE_Manager_XXXXXX Wi-Fi network, your computer may temporarily disconnect after clicking Apply.

If this occurs, reconnect to the bridge's CPE_Manager_XXXXXX network before continuing.


Step 9 – Connect the Slave to the Master

After both the Master and Slave have been configured for the United States region and rebooted, log into the Slave bridge again.

On the Slave:

  1. Select the Repeater icon.
  2. Select the Repeater tab.
  3. Locate the SSID field.
  4. Click Scan.
  5. Wait for the Wireless List to appear.
  6. Locate the Master's wireless network.

The Master's network will normally be named:

CPE_XXXXXX

The six X's correspond to the last 6 digits of the Master bridge's MAC address, which is printed on the product label on the back of the bridge.

For example:

Master MAC Address:

D4:41:3F:00:07:85

Master wireless network:

CPE_000785

Select the Master's CPE_XXXXXX network from the Wireless List.


Step 10 – Enter the Master Wireless Password

After selecting the Master's wireless network, verify the connection settings.

The default password for the Master's CPE_XXXXXX wireless network is:

66666666

This password may already be populated automatically.

If necessary, enter:

66666666

in the Password field.

Then click:

Apply

The Slave will begin connecting to the Master.


Step 11 – Confirm Successful Connection

Allow up to approximately 2 minutes for the wireless connection to establish.

A successful connection is indicated by:

All four signal-strength LEDs being solid.

You can also verify the Slave's connection from the web management interface.


Step 12 – Add Additional Slave Bridges

Repeat Steps 8 through 11 for each additional Slave bridge.

For each Slave:

  1. Verify Country Region = United States.
  2. Reboot the bridge after changing the region.
  3. Log back into the Slave.
  4. Go to Repeater > Repeater.
  5. Click Scan.
  6. Select the Master's CPE_XXXXXX network.
  7. Verify the wireless password is 66666666.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. Wait for the connection to establish.
  10. Confirm all four signal-strength LEDs are solid.

Repeat until all Slave bridges have been connected.

A single Master can support up to 8 Slave bridges.


Installation and Positioning
 

After bench pairing is complete, the bridges can be installed at their final locations.

Proper positioning is important for maintaining a reliable wireless connection.

Line of Sight

Maintain a clear line of sight between the Master bridge and every Slave bridge.

Avoid positioning the bridges where the wireless path is blocked by:

  • Buildings
  • Trees
  • Walls
  • Large structures
  • Other physical obstructions

Obstructions can reduce signal strength and wireless performance.

Horizontal Coverage

The Master bridge has approximately:

60° horizontal coverage

All Slave bridges should be positioned within this coverage area in front of the Master bridge.

For Point-to-Multipoint installations, the Master should be aimed toward the center of the group of Slave bridges.

Vertical Coverage

The Master bridge has approximately:

30° vertical coverage

This is approximately:

±15° from the center line of the Master bridge

Slave bridges should remain within this vertical coverage area.

Point-to-Multipoint Positioning Example

The Master bridge should have clear line of sight to every Slave, with all Slave bridges located within the Master bridge's 60° horizontal and 30° vertical coverage area.


Factory Reset

If a bridge needs to be returned to factory defaults:

  1. Power on the bridge.
  2. Wait for the bridge to finish booting, indicated by the WiFi LED lit/flashing
  3. Press and hold the pairing button for approximately 10 seconds.
  4. Release the button. The Signal LEDs will all flash indicating success.

The bridge will restore its factory-default configuration.


Troubleshooting

Configuration Page Stops Responding

When changing the Country Region or other wireless settings, the bridge may restart or reset its wireless interface.

If a configuration page stops loading or a setting does not appear to save:

  1. Check the Wi-Fi connection on your computer.
  2. Verify that you are still connected to the bridge's CPE_Manager_XXXXXX management network.
  3. If disconnected, reconnect to the management Wi-Fi.
  4. Log back into the bridge.
  5. Verify the setting and apply it again if necessary.

Temporary management Wi-Fi disconnects can occur when changing wireless settings.


Slave Does Not See the Master During Scan

Verify:

  • The Master is powered on.
  • The Master has completed booting.
  • The Master Country Region is set to United States.
  • The Slave Country Region is also set to United States.
  • Both bridges have been rebooted after the Country Region change.
  • The Slave is within wireless range of the Master.

Then perform another Scan from:

Repeater > Repeater > Scan


Slave Connects to the Wrong Master

If more than one XVR Master is within range, verify that you selected the correct CPE_XXXXXX network.

Compare the six digits in the SSID with the last 6 digits of the intended Master's MAC address.

Using Lock BSSID can also prevent the Slave from associating with another Master broadcasting the same SSID.


Wi-Fi LED Turns Off on a Slave

If there is no network activity connected to a Slave bridge, the unit may enter a low-power state and the Wi-Fi LED may turn off.

Connect an active network device to the Slave bridge to generate network activity and re-engage the wireless connection.


Still No Connection

If the Slave still does not establish communication:

  • Verify that the correct Master SSID was selected.
  • Verify the password is correct.
  • Confirm both units are configured for United States.
  • Reboot both bridges.
  • Allow up to 2 minutes after reboot for wireless communication to establish.
  • Confirm the bridges have a clear line of sight during testing.
  • Repeat the Slave's Repeater > Scan procedure and reconnect to the Master.
