The Pedestrian and Vehicle Detection feature on X-Series devices uses advanced AI to accurately detect and track pedestrians and vehicles in a user-defined camera view area. Its great not only to track pedestrians and vehicles entering and leaving the area but also filters out irrelevant events, it significantly reduces false detection's compared to standard motion detection, enhancing accuracy and operational efficiency.
Step 1: Access the Device
- Log in to your X-Series device using your credentials.
Step 2: Navigate to Pedestrian/Vehicle Settings
- Go to Main Menu > Setup > AI > Setup > Pedestrian & Vehicle (sometimes labelded P&D) tab.
Step 3: Configure Pedestrian/Vehicle Settings
Adjust the following options to meet your requirements:
- Channel: Select the camera channel to configure for perimeter intrusion detection.
- Enable: Toggle this option to activate the perimeter intrusion feature for the selected channel.
- Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity level for detecting persons/faces. Higher values increase sensitivity, while lower values reduce false triggers.
Snap Mode: Here you can adjust how snapshots containing a recognized pedestrian, vehicle, non-motorized vehicle will be captured. You have three options.
a) Default Mode - This option provides a single, best snapshot of the detected pedestrian/vehicle/non-motorized vehicle is captured.
c) Realtime Mode - This option tracks and captures the pedestrian/vehicle/non-motorized vehicle's entering and leaving the detection area. You'll get two notifications in the Alarm Notification Panel - once when the object is first detected and again as the object leaves the detection area. This is useful if you want to continuously monitor the object in an area and get alerts in real-time.
c) Interval Mode -Here you can specify the number of snapshots to take and the time interval between snapshots.
- Min Pixel & Max Pixel: Adjust the amount accordingly. The Min Pixel and Max Pixel settings allow users to define the size range of individuals to be included in the crowd density count on X-Series devices. These settings determine the minimum and maximum pixel dimensions of a detected person to qualify for the count. Increasing the Min Pixel and Max Pixel values requires larger person sizes for detection, while decreasing these values includes smaller person sizes, enabling precise customization of crowd monitoring parameters to suit specific environmental and safety requirements.
- Detection Target: Here you will select what type of events you want to target. These options include, pedestrian, vehicle & non motorized vehicles (such as bikes, animals, etc). Select the options that best meet your requirements.
The Detection Mode setting on X-Series devices with Pedestrian and Vehicle Detection allows users to specify how pedestrians, vehicles, and non-motorized vehicles are detected within the user-defined camera field of view (FOV). This AI-driven feature offers two configurable modes to optimize detection based on user needs, enhancing accuracy and reducing irrelevant alerts compared to standard motion detection.
Detection Mode Options:
a) Motion Mode: Detects only pedestrians, vehicles, or non-motorized vehicles that are actively moving within the FOV. This mode is ideal for scenarios where the focus is on dynamic activity, such as monitoring moving traffic or pedestrians in high-traffic areas, minimizing notifications for stationary objects.
b) Hybrid Mode: Detects both moving and stationary pedestrians, vehicles, or non-motorized vehicles within the FOV. This mode is suited for comprehensive monitoring, such as in parking lots or entry points, where both active and idle objects are relevant, ensuring broader coverage.
Detection Area:The Detection Area setting on X-Series devices allows users to select the region within the camera’s field of view (FOV) for crowd density monitoring. Two options are available:
a) User-Defined: Enables users to custom-draw and specify the precise area to monitor, offering flexibility for targeted crowd density analysis.
b) Full Screen: Monitors the entire FOV of the camera, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the visible area.
Choose the option that best aligns with your specific monitoring needs to optimize crowd management and safety.- Rule Enable: Toggle to activate the selected rule.
Step 4: Save Settings
- Click Save to apply all configured settings.
Scheduling Pedestrian & Vehicle Detection on X-Series Devices
To ensure the Pedestrian & Vehicle feature on your X-Series device is active during specific times, you next need to configure a schedule for when the AI feature operates. Follow these steps to set up the schedule for Pedestrian & Vehicle.
Step 5: Configure the Pedestrian & Vehicle Schedule
- Navigate to Main Menu > Setup > AI > Setup > Schedule.
- Select the Channel you want to schedule Crowd Density for.
- Click the Enable option to activate scheduling for the selected channel.
- From the list of available AI features, select Pedestrian & Vehicle.
- In the schedule interface, click and drag to draw a box around the days of the week and hours of the day when you want the Pedestrian & Vehicle detection feature to be active.
- (Optional) Use the Copy option to apply the same schedule to other channels, if desired, or configure each channel individually.
- Click Save to confirm the schedule settings.
Configuring Triggered Actions for Pedestrian & Vehicle on X-Series Devices
To enhance the functionality of Pedestrian & Vehicle on your X-Series device, you can configure specific actions to trigger when a pedestrian/vehicle event is detected. This step is optional but allows for customized responses such as notifications, recordings, or alerts. Below are the steps to set up triggered actions.
Step 6: Configure Triggered Actions (Optional)
- Navigate to Main Menu > Alarm > AI > Pedestrian & Vehicle.
- Set up the desired actions to trigger when a line crossing event is detected:
- Channel: Select the camera channel to apply the alarm settings to.
- Buzzer: Enable to make the XVR/NVR emit a beep when a line crossing is detected.
- Latch Time: Specify the duration (in seconds) for the buzzer to sound after detection.
- Post Recording: Set the duration (in seconds) for the device to continue recording after the line crossing event ends.
- Send Email: Enable to send an email notification when a line crossing occurs (requires email configuration in Network Settings).
- Show Message: Enable to display an on-screen message when a line crossing is detected.
- Full Screen: Enable to display the camera feed in full-screen mode upon detection.
- FTP Picture & Video Upload: Enable to upload pictures or videos to an FTP server when a line crossing occurs (requires FTP configuration in Storage Settings).
- Cloud Picture & Cloud Video: Enable to upload pictures or videos to a cloud storage service when a line crossing occurs (requires cloud configuration in Storage Settings).
- Enable Record: Enable to initiate recording when a line crossing is detected.
- Record Channel: Select the channel(s) to record upon detection. By default, the configured channel is selected, but additional channels can be included if desired.
- Click Save to confirm the alarm settings.
