Queue Length Detection is an advanced AI feature designed to monitor the status of a queue by analyzing its length and the staying time of individuals within it. Utilizing video analytics you can track the number of people in a designated queue area and measure how long they remain in the queue. This enables real-time assessment of queue dynamics, helping to optimize crowd management, reduce wait times, and enhance operational efficiency in settings such as retail checkouts, airports, or event venues. When predefined thresholds for queue length or staying time are exceeded, the system can trigger alerts to notify personnel for timely intervention, ensuring better service and safety.

Step 1: Access the Device

  • Log in to your X-Series device using your credentials.

Step 2: Navigate to Queue Length Settings

  • Go to Main Menu > Setup > AI > Setup > Queue Length tab.

Step 3: Configure Queue Length Settings

Adjust the following options to meet your requirements:

  • Channel: Select the camera channel to configure for Queue Length detection.
  • Enable: Toggle this option to activate the Queue Length feature for the selected channel.
  • Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity level for detecting persons/objects. Higher values increase sensitivity, while lower values reduce false triggers.
  • Min Pixel & Max Pixel: Adjust the amount accordingly.  The Min Pixel and Max Pixel settings allow users to define the size range of individuals to be included in the crowd density count on X-Series devices. These settings determine the minimum and maximum pixel dimensions of a detected person to qualify for the count. Increasing the Min Pixel and Max Pixel values requires larger person sizes for detection, while decreasing these values includes smaller person sizes, enabling precise customization of crowd monitoring parameters to suit specific environmental and safety requirements.
  • Max Detection Number: The Maximum Allowed Number setting in the Queue Length Detection feature on X-Series devices defines the threshold for the number of people permitted in a queue within the designated detection area. When the total number of detected individuals in the line exceeds this pre-set limit, the system automatically triggers an alert. This functionality ensures effective queue management, helping maintain order and safety by prompting timely intervention when overcrowding occurs.
  • Max Pro Time:  The Maximum Staying Time setting in the Queue Length Detection feature on X-Series devices allows users to specify the maximum duration, in seconds, that a queue can remain within the designated detection area before an alert is triggered. If the staying time of the queue exceeds this pre-set limit, the X-Series device sends a notification/alert. This feature supports efficient queue management by identifying prolonged wait times, enabling timely interventions to enhance service efficiency and maintain order.
  • Detection Area:The Detection Area setting on X-Series devices allows users to select the region within the camera’s field of view (FOV) for crowd density monitoring. Two options are available:

          a) User-Defined: Enables users to custom-draw and specify the precise area to monitor, offering flexibility for targeted crowd density analysis.

          b) Full Screen: Monitors the entire FOV of the camera, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the visible area.
Choose the option that best aligns with your specific monitoring needs to optimize crowd management and safety.

  • Rule Enable: Toggle to activate the selected rule.

Step 4: Save Settings

  • Click Save to apply all configured settings.

Scheduling Queue Length on X-Series Devices

To ensure the Queue Length feature on your X-Series device is active during specific times, you next need to configure a schedule for when the AI feature operates. Follow these steps to set up the schedule for Queue Length.

Step 5: Configure the Crowd Density Schedule

  1. Navigate to Main Menu > Setup > AI > Setup > Schedule.
  2. Select the Channel you want to schedule Queue Length for.
  3. Click the Enable option to activate scheduling for the selected channel.
  4. From the list of available AI features, select Queue Length.
  5. In the schedule interface, click and drag to draw a box around the days of the week and hours of the day when you want the Queue Length Detection feature to be active.
  6. (Optional) Use the Copy option to apply the same schedule to other channels, if desired, or configure each channel individually.
  7. Click Save to confirm the schedule settings.

Configuring Triggered Actions for Queue Length on X-Series Devices

To enhance the functionality of Queue Length on your X-Series device, you can configure specific actions to trigger when a Queue Length event is detected. This step is optional but allows for customized responses such as notifications, recordings, or alerts. Below are the steps to set up triggered actions.

Step 6: Configure Triggered Actions (Optional)

  1. Navigate to Main Menu > Alarm > AI > Queue Length.
  2. Set up the desired actions to trigger when a line crossing event is detected:
    • Channel: Select the camera channel to apply the alarm settings to.
    • Buzzer: Enable to make the XVR/NVR emit a beep when a Queue Length is detected.
    • Latch Time: Specify the duration (in seconds) for the buzzer to sound after detection.
    • Post Recording: Set the duration (in seconds) for the device to continue recording after the Queue Length event ends.
    • Send Email: Enable to send an email notification when a Queue Length occurs (requires email configuration in Network Settings).
    • Show Message: Enable to display an on-screen message when a Queue Length is detected.
    • Full Screen: Enable to display the camera feed in full-screen mode upon detection.
    • FTP Picture & Video Upload: Enable to upload pictures or videos to an FTP server when a Queue Length occurs (requires FTP configuration in Storage Settings).
    • Cloud Picture & Cloud Video: Enable to upload pictures or videos to a cloud storage service when a Queue Length occurs (requires cloud configuration in Storage Settings).
    • Enable Record: Enable to initiate recording when a Queue Length is detected.
    • Record Channel: Select the channel(s) to record upon detection. By default, the configured channel is selected, but additional channels can be included if desired.
  3. Click Save to confirm the alarm settings.
