Applies to Product: All X-Series Equipment
Applies to Firmware: 8.2.2 and newer
Motion detection is a widely utilized feature that enables users to configure various actions triggered by motion within a camera's field of view. Key functionalities include initiating video recording, sending push notifications, and more. Smart motion detection enhances this capability by allowing users to filter motion events based on the size and shape of detected objects, specifically distinguishing between vehicles and pedestrians. This advanced filtering minimizes false triggers, such as those caused by tree branches swaying in the wind or small animals passing by..
X-Series Motion Detection and Smart Motion Detection Configuration Guide
Follow these steps to configure motion detection and smart motion detection (SMD) on your X-Series device:
Step 1: Access the Device
- Log in to your X-Series device using your credentials.
Step 2: Configure Motion Detection Settings
Navigate to Main Menu > Setup > Channel > Motion.
Adjust the following settings based on your preferences:
- Channel: Select the camera channel to configure motion detection settings.
- Sensitivity: Adjust the sensitivity level to determine how easily motion is detected. Higher values increase sensitivity, while lower values reduce it.
- Area: View the live camera feed on the right, overlaid with a grid. Red-filled grid boxes indicate areas where motion detection is active. Non-highlighted areas are inactive. Adjust the grid to define the motion detection zone within the camera’s field of view (FOV).
- SMD by Camera: Choose from four options:
- Motion: Detects all motion events within the set parameters.
- Pedestrian: Filters motion to detect only human-like figures.
- Vehicle: Filters motion to detect only vehicle-like objects.
- Pedestrian & Vehicle: Detects both pedestrian and vehicle motion, filtering out other triggers like tree branches or small animals.
Click Save to confirm your settings.
Step 3: Configure Motion-Triggered Actions
Navigate to Main Menu > Alarm > Motion.
Set up the desired actions to trigger when motion is detected:
- Channel: Select the channel to configure.
- Buzzer: Enable to make the XVR/NVR beep when motion is detected.
- Latch Time: Set the duration for the buzzer to sound after a motion event.
- Post Recording: Specify how long the device records after a motion event ends.
- Send Email: Enable to send an email notification when motion is detected (requires email configuration in Network Settings).
- Show Message: Enable to display an on-screen message when motion is detected.
- Full Screen: Enable to display the camera feed in full-screen mode when motion is detected.
- FTP Picture & Video Upload: Enable to upload pictures or videos to an FTP server when motion is detected (requires FTP configuration in Storage Settings).
- Cloud Picture & Cloud Video: Enable to upload pictures or videos to a cloud storage service when motion is detected (requires cloud configuration in Storage Settings).
- Enable Record: Enable to start recording when motion is detected.
- Record Channel: Select the channel(s) to record when motion is detected. By default, only the configured channel is selected, but additional channels can be included.
Click Save to confirm your settings.
Step 4: Set Up Motion Recording Schedule
- Navigate to Main Menu > Record > Record > Schedule.
- In the Schedule section, select the Motion option on the right.
- Click and drag to create a box around the desired dates and times for motion-based recording. Motion recording will be displayed as a yellow line across the areas you wish to schedule it on to record.
- Use the Copy option at the bottom to apply the schedule to all channels, or configure each channel individually.
- Click Save to confirm your settings.
Step 5: Verify and Test
- Ensure all settings are saved and test the configuration to confirm that motion detection and triggered actions work as intended.
By following these steps, you can effectively set up motion detection and smart motion detection on your X-Series device, tailoring it to your specific security needs.
