How can I backup video footage off my XVR/NVR/IPC?

Footage can be backed up using several methods, including:

1. Directly via the Device: Utilize the built-in backup functionality on the XVR/NVR device.
2. X-VMS Software: Use the X-VMS application on a PC or Mac to manage and back up footage.
3. Mobile Device: Perform backups using a mobile phone or tablet through the XMV app.

How do I backup video footage off my device directly?

To back up footage directly from your XVR/NVR, follow these steps with a mouse connected to the device:  You may also reference the below embedded youtube video.

1. Access the Search Menu: Navigate to Main Menu > Search > General.
2. Configure Search Parameters:
   • Date: Select the date for the footage you wish to back up.
   • Search Type: Choose the type of recorded footage to retrieve.
   • Stream Type: Select the desired stream type, with "Mainstream" recommended.
   • Channel(s): Specify the channel(s) you want to review and back up.
3. Play Footage: After setting the parameters, click the play icon to display the footage on the timeline below.
4. Select Footage for Backup:
   • Click on the timeline to set the starting point of the footage.
   • Select the scissors icon to display two arrows above the timeline.
   • Adjust the arrows to mark the start and end points of the footage you wish to back up.
5. Initiate Backup:
   • Click the backup option (floppy disk icon).
   • Choose the file format for the backup (MP4 is recommended).
   • Click "Save."
6. Save to USB:
   • Select the destination on your connected USB flash drive.
   • Click "OK" to begin the backup process.
7. Monitor Progress: A status bar will display the backup progress. Wait for the process to complete.

To back up footage using the X-VMS software, follow these steps, which closely mirror the process for direct backup from the XVR/NVR:

1. Launch the Software: Open the X-VMS software on your PC or Mac.
2. Access Playback: Navigate to the "Playback" tab by selecting the playback icon.
3. Select Camera(s): In the "Basic" playback section, check the box next to the camera(s) from which you wish to back up footage.
4. Choose Date: Select the desired date for the footage using the calendar section.
5. Search for Footage: Click the "Search" button to populate the timeline at the bottom with footage matching your parameters.
6. Review Footage:
   • Click the play icon to start playback of the selected footage.
   • Click the scissors icon to display two arrows above the timeline.
7. Mark Footage for Backup:
   • Adjust the arrows to set the start and end points of the footage you wish to back up.
8. Initiate Backup:
   • Click the backup option (floppy disk icon).
   • Select the file format for the backup (MP4 is recommended).

How do I backup video footage off the XMV mobile app?

To back up footage using the X-Series mobile app, follow these steps. Note that the mobile app is best suited for shorter clips, as you must record and watch the clip in its entirety during the backup process:

1. Open the App: Launch the X-Series XMV app on your phone or tablet.

2. Access Playback: Tap the playback icon.

   

3. Select Device and Camera: Tap the server icon in the bottom left corner to choose the device and camera for the footage you wish to back up. After selecting the camera, tap the "X" icon to close this section.

1. Choose Date: Tap the calendar icon to select the date for the footage you want to review and back up. Tap the "X" icon to close this section once the date is selected.

1. Record Footage:
   • Navigate through the timeline at the bottom of the screen to locate your desired starting point.
   • Tap the record icon to begin recording the clip.
   • Tap the record icon again when the desired footage has ended to stop recording.

1. Confirm Backup: Once the recording is complete, a success message will confirm that your clip has been downloaded.
2. Access and Manage the Clip:
   • Return to the main menu of the app and select the "File List" option.
   • Tap the checkmark next to the backed-up file.
